Harold’s mom was hesitant to welcome a new dog into her home since she was still mourning the loss of her beloved Lola who passed three months prior. Despite this, she found herself browsing Pet Finder each night, curious about the dogs available in the New York area. It was during one of these nightly searches that she stumbled upon the New York City Second Chance Rescue’s website and noticed Harold. He appeared as a disheveled white Pit Bull mix, distinguished by a notable snaggletooth that captured his unique personality. Compelled by his adorable photo, she reached out for more details and later visited him in Brooklyn at his foster home.
Harold’s journey began when he was discovered by an animal control officer, abandoned in a field in Georgia, wearing a thick collar with a carabiner hook. He was struggling with multiple health issues, including being heartworm positive, having whipworm, and a respiratory infection. Despite the Fulton County animal shelter’s overwhelming intake of animals, someone there recognized Harold’s gentle nature and intervened to prevent his euthanization. She contacted Second Chance Rescue who pulled him from the shelter. Named Harold after the shelter worker’s grandfather, the name was kept by his new mom, feeling it perfectly matched his demeanor.
Second Chance Rescue stepped in to facilitate Harold’s recovery, providing him with the necessary medical care through Dr. Terry and her team at Dream House Dog Rehab. Once rehabilitated, Harold was transported to the New York area for fostering. In what seemed like fate, Harold’s mom decided to adopt him, marking the beginning of a new chapter in both their lives.
Today, Harold thrives in his forever home, bringing joy and laughter to his family with his playful antics and charming quirks. His story is a testament to resilience and the transformative power of love and care in giving a once-forgotten dog a second chance at happiness.
