How to Build a Minimalist Baby Registry

Can you be minimalist with a baby?  Yes! I am here to share a minimalist baby registry that is sure to keep things simple.

Whether you buy these items new or used you will be surprised by how little you really need.

Minimalist Baby Registry

This just so happens to be my third pregnancy and baby so I have a pretty good idea that there is a lot of gadgets out there that you just don’t need.

By keeping it simple it will make life with a baby a lot easier and more organized!

With my first baby, I thought I needed everything I saw on the market, but it turned out half of the items I bought were rarely used.  Also, keep in mind how quickly a baby grows out of that newborn baby stage.

Must-Have Baby Essentials:

Minimalist Baby Clothes List

This time around I am only buying a few newborn items and then 0-3 month clothes.  I am focusing on only up to 3 months to start.

If you get a ton of clothes for 6 months to a year the baby room will be overstuffed.  It is also very hard to keep track of everything if you are focusing too far into the future.

By getting only what you need for the first 3 months then you will see just how big your baby is after that and shop accordingly.

I was able to find all my baby clothes and baby blankets from a secondhand baby store for around $60.

Must have baby clothing

Even minimalists don’t want to be doing laundry every day!  I like to have about 7 to 10 of each item that they will wear daily.  Some babies are very messy and need to be changed several times a day.

To get started:

  • Onesies – long sleeve and short sleeve (depending on the time of year)
  • Pants – feet included if possible (then you don’t have to deal with socks as often)
  • Zipper all in one onesie (it’s nice if the zipper can zip up from the bottom for changing)
  • Sleep sack (just one or 2 will usually do)
  • Sweater (again depends on the weather)
  • Socks, Hats, Diapers, Wipes, Blankets

Car Seat

Obviously, you are going to need a car seat.  Whether you feel comfortable with a used car seat is up to you.  I was able to find a used one that was actually brand new for only $60.

I trust that it is new and there are no problems, but you must do your homework on this one.

Also, keep in mind when buying a car seat that your baby is only in one of those carrier car seats for a short time.

To save money it might pay to start out with a regular car seat especially if you don’t do a lot of driving and getting in and out of the car.

Baby Carriers

Wraps and baby carriers are a must for me.  Some people love them and some people don’t.

I find this is the easiest way to carry the baby around the house and still get things done.  There are a ton of secondhand baby carriers out there and they are very affordable.

Portable Crib

A portable crib has always been on my must list.  This is where my babies start out sleeping.  I put this right next to my bed for the first few months of sleep.

After that, a portable crib can continue to be used for 3 or so years!

Every time we traveled we used our own portable crib and it saves a lot of hassle.  I ended up buying a new Pack n Play this time around because the used ones were just not worth the price people wanted.

Always price check because sometimes something new is cheaper than something used.

Minimalist Baby Registry Conclusion

Yes, you can buy a lot of stuff, but you can also get by on very little.  Keep in mind how quickly the baby stage goes by and this will save you a lot of money, clutter, and time dealing with stuff.

By keeping it minimal it will make life with a baby so enjoyable and fun!  I hope some of these tips were helpful.
