This story is about a Pit Bull named Malea, a gentle dog who was heartlessly abandoned by a monster of an owner. The Pit Bull was put inside a sweltering dumpster in the midst of the summer heat. Her owner then shut the lid to ensure she had no way of getting out and walked away. We’ve come across many stories of abandonment, but this may be the cruelest one yet. However, Malea had a guardian angel that day who never left her side. And that angel was about to save her life!
A compassionate individual witnessed this distressing act and reached out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for assistance. Donna Lochmann, the Chief Life Saving officer, along with the rescue team, rushed to the scene to aid the dog. The man specifically said to look for the green dumpster and when they lifted its lid, they found Malea gazing back with hopeful eyes. Upon seeing her rescuers, Malea’s tail began to wag, and a smile appeared on her face, relieved to be discovered by caring people.
The rescue team was moved by Malea’s situation, struggling to contain their emotions over such cruelty towards an innocent dog. Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared on their Facebook, expressing their relief at finding Malea conscious despite the intense heat inside the dumpster. “We tried to hold back tears, but this really choked us up. It was so hot inside; we’re thankful she didn’t pass out.”
Lochmann climbed into the dumpster to comfort Malea. She secured a leash around the pup and carefully helped her out of the dumpster. The team then transported the grateful dog to their shelter in St. Louis.
Throughout the journey, Malea showered her rescuers with kisses, expressing her gratitude. Lochmann comforted her, affirming Malea’s worth and assuring her that she was far from being worthless. “You’re a beautiful girl. You do not belong in the dumpster. You are not trash. You are NOT trash. No. You’re a beautiful girl. Your life matters. Yes, it does.”
Once back at the center, volunteers arranged for a foster mom to take in Malea. She was thrilled to be inside a home where she received love and affection. Soon, Malea found her permanent family and the story of her abandonment was just that– a story. It’s no longer her life. She’s wanted more than ever! Thank you to the volunteers and the Good Samaritan who made this rescue possible.
